Marmara Sea Microearthquake Swarm Triggers Monitoring Around Princes' Islands Fault

Seismological monitoring stations recorded a sequence of more than 170 microearthquakes along the Princes’ Islands segment of the North Anatolian Fault in the Sea of Marmara. Earth science experts have advised calm, stating that micro-seismic swarms of this scale represent routine tectonic stress releases rather than direct indicators of an imminent large-magnitude earthquake. Continuous monitoring of the Marmara fault lines remains active.
