AKOM Issues Severe Heatwave Advisory as Istanbul Temperatures Approach 36°C

The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a meteorological warning projecting temperatures across Istanbul to rise between 33°C and 36°C (91.4°F–96.8°F). The temperature spike is driven by the convergence of two distinct heat systems impacting the Marmara region. In parallel with official municipal advisories, the anticipated heat event has drawn tracking on digital prediction exchanges, where contracts reflect high trading activity around peak temperature thresholds for late August.

Summer Heatwave and Sudden Cloud Formations Affect Daily Life in Istanbul

Istanbul experienced elevated temperatures and high humidity alongside localized overcast skies in late July 2026. On July 22 and 23, residents and visitors frequented coastal zones along the Marmara shoreline, including Florya, Yeşilköy, and Caddebostan, as well as swimming areas near the Maiden's Tower to cool off. Concurrently, market prediction platforms tracked peak daily temperature estimates while heavy cloud cover was documented over prominent landmarks such as the Çamlıca Mosque.

Thunderstorms Forecasted to Bring Short-Term Relief from Severe Istanbul Heatwave

Thunderstorms Forecasted to Bring Short-Term Relief from Severe Istanbul Heatwave

Following a sustained period of elevated summer temperatures in northwestern Turkey, meteorologists report that a changing weather front is set to disrupt the regional heatwave. The intense summer climate recently prompted high volumes of activity on digital prediction platforms like Polymarket, where traders actively speculated on the peak temperatures registered in Istanbul.

According to meteorological models released by the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS), a significant weather system carrying heavy rain showers and localized thunderstorms will move across the Marmara region. Temperatures in Istanbul are projected to drop to approximately 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit), breaking the multi-day heat advisory. The incoming weather pattern is also expected to generate strong northern winds across the southwestern Marmara and northern Aegean regions, with wet conditions potentially lingering along the western Black Sea coastline heading into the weekend.
