Türkiye Initiates Nationwide 3D Geospatial Mapping Program Starting with Istanbul Digital Twin
Geospatial software provider Esri has reported on a comprehensive national initiative by the Turkish government to convert its traditional property registries into an integrated 3D cadastre platform. The pilot stage of the project has successfully generated a citywide digital twin of Istanbul, mapping approximately 1.3 million individual buildings, including historic landmarks such as the Hagia Sophia.
The platform unifies municipal semantic data, indoor architectural models, and photogrammetric records into a singular database. Designed as an operational tool rather than a static model, the digital twin allows city planners and emergency response teams to simulate seismic shaking vulnerabilities down to individual building levels, optimize public transit routes, and conduct real-time urban environmental analyses. Following the completion of the Istanbul registry phase, the 3D cadastre model is scheduled for expansion to Ankara and remaining provinces.
