Rights Groups Condemn Strip-Search Allegations in Istanbul Municipality Case

Human rights organizations and legal experts are calling for an independent investigation after Fatoş Pınar Türker, a former executive at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s media subsidiary Medya A.Ş., alleged she was subjected to a strip-search while in police custody. Testifying in an ongoing corruption trial linked to associates of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Türker stated she was forced to remove her clothing and was threatened with the loss of custody over her children. The Istanbul Police Department has firmly denied any wrongdoing. The incident drew international attention, with Nacho Sánchez Amor, the European Parliament's Turkey rapporteur, publicly voicing deep concern over the allegations.
