Shifts in Istanbul's Tourism Sector: Health, Hospitality, and Heritage Closures

Istanbul's tourism industry is navigating a mix of heritage management, luxury hospitality expansion, and dominance in the medical tourism sector. In heritage news, the historic Basilica Cistern has been temporarily closed to visitors; the site was evacuated and transferred to the jurisdiction of Türkiye's General Directorate of Foundations.

In the luxury hospitality sector, the Four Seasons Hotels located at the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet have officially joined the Condé Nast portfolio, reinforcing the city's standing in high-end travel. Simultaneously, Istanbul remains a primary global hub for medical tourism. The city draws over a million medical tourists annually, specifically leading the market in hair transplant procedures and generating substantial economic returns.
