Istanbul's Historic Basketball Attendance Remains Among FIBA European Qualifiers' Best

The atmosphere of European basketball has recently drawn historical comparisons following a major FIBA Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers match in Paris. While a reported 15,831 fans attended the recent France versus Slovenia game, the event highlighted the enduring legacy of basketball enthusiasm in Istanbul. According to FIBA records, the fourth-highest attended game in the history of the European Qualifiers remains a 2022 matchup between Türkiye and Serbia in Istanbul, which drew an impressive crowd of 15,556 spectators. Additionally, other matches hosted in Istanbul, such as Türkiye against Switzerland (14,508 fans) and Greece (14,500 fans) in 2026 and 2022 respectively, consistently rank within the top 10 historical attendances, underlining the city's status as a formidable powerhouse for basketball culture and passionate sports audiences.
