Rare Marine Species Spotted Once Again in the Marmara Sea Off Istanbul
Divers exploring the waters surrounding Istanbul's Princes' Islands have documented the reappearance of several marine species that had become increasingly rare in the Marmara Sea. Recent underwater observations have recorded sightings of species such as John Dory, spiny dogfish, and smooth-hound sharks. Marine experts have also observed octopuses, lobsters, rays, and egg-bearing scorpionfish, indicating that marine life in the heavily populated inland sea continues to reproduce despite pressures from intense fishing and urban waste.
