Istanbul Landmarks Illuminated for Ukrainian Solidarity and Mawlid al-Nabi
Recent visual displays across Istanbul's skyline have marked both international solidarity and religious observance. On August 25, 2026, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, which spans the Bosphorus Strait, was illuminated in blue and yellow to represent the colors of the Ukrainian flag. In a separate event on August 24, 2026, the historic Sultanahmet Mosque was brightly illuminated in observance of Mawlid al-Nabi, the celebration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
