Istanbul Airport has officially surpassed London Heathrow as the busiest airport in Europe, driven by sustained passenger growth and expanding international connections. Operational data indicates a 1.5% decrease in Heathrow's July passenger volume, while Istanbul's traffic numbers continue an upward trajectory.
To accommodate ongoing expansion, the airport is scheduled to open a fourth runway. The facility’s modern terminal infrastructure and elevated passenger service experience have also led an increasing number of long-haul transit travelers—including passengers from major Asian markets like Hong Kong—to route through Istanbul.
