Environment ministers and senior representatives from the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation met in Istanbul to formally adopt the Istanbul Declaration. The declaration establishes a unified framework for multilateral climate action ahead of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), which is set to take place in Antalya, Turkey.

Chaired by Turkey's Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum—who also serves as President-designate for COP31—the summit marked the first ministerial meeting in the D-8’s history dedicated exclusively to environmental policy.
