Istanbul Authorities Close Taksim Metro Station and Funicular Line Until Further Notice
The Istanbul Governor's Office and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality have announced the indefinite closure of key transportation links serving Taksim Square. Effective June 21, 2026, operations have been suspended at the Taksim station on the M2 metro line as well as the F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line. Public transit authorities stated that the closures will remain in effect until further notice, though detailed operational reasons for the sudden suspension were not disclosed.
