Urban Planning and Transport Disruptions in Istanbul: Historic Center Traffic Ban and Airport Flight Delays
Significant logistical and infrastructural shifts are currently impacting mobility in Istanbul. In a major urban planning development, city authorities are reportedly planning to restrict vehicular access to the historic center. Implementing a model similar to London's congestion charge, vehicles entering central Istanbul will be required to pay a fee, a measure aimed at reducing heavy traffic and environmental pollution in the historic peninsula. Concurrently, major operational disruptions occurred at Istanbul Airport, where 192 flights were delayed and 2 were canceled, leaving numerous travelers stranded and testing the resilience of airline and airport operations.
