Digital Istanbul: Urban Mobility Ecosystems and Historic Preservation
Istanbul continues to integrate digital technology into its urban fabric and heritage preservation. The fourth phase of the "Digital Istanbul" project has been officially launched, focusing on the digital promotion of the city's historical sites. This interactive learning initiative digitizes landmarks and offers educational resources in five languages. Concurrently, discussions regarding the city's digital infrastructure took center stage at the ITS European Congress in Istanbul. Sarah-Jayne Williams, the director of global product partnerships at Google Maps, addressed the congress, emphasizing that digital fragmentation remains a primary obstacle to achieving seamless urban mobility. Williams noted that while user interfaces have advanced, the underlying disconnected data layers hinder practical execution in physical transportation.
